Bears offense shows life under Thomas Brown. NFL Week 11 Chicago Bears game story.

Written by Eric Mann

Was Shane Waldron a cancer? Hearing things come out as he was relieved of his duties and fired from the Chicago Bears as their offensive coordinator Tuesday of last week. Some of the rumors coming out he was not holding guys accountable on mistakes and not calling good plays or schemes.

With Thomas Brown taking the helm as the new offensive coordinator. What we saw on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, the oldest rivalry in the NFL. Thomas Brown couldn’t have called a more perfect and balanced game. Utilizing Swift and Johnson out of the backfield to their strengths. Swift with the outside speed and Johnson with the in your face up the middle hard nose runs.

We saw quick passes and quick sets, double and triple tight end sets as well. It looked like Thomas was making his scheme and play calls work with Caleb Williams and the offensive talent. Calling on your number one wide receiver in DJ Moore a lot more than we’ve seen since the start of the year. Utilizing Cole Kmet when needed, and when it mattered the most, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze came up with key receptions. We haven’t seen that in a long time in Chicago. I know it’s one game, but boy did the team look different.

Caleb Williams looked like a different man out there from previous weeks. He was quick, smart, decisive, and accurate on his passes. This circles back to Thomas Brown, knowing how banged up the offensive line is and has been all season long, as well as being very lackluster and one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Brown knew how to utilize Caleb’s talents with the offensive weapons around him. The routes and play combinations seemed to have worked today.

Brown’s game plan was to use Caleb like how Caleb was in college. The generational talent that we witnessed while he was at OU and USC. The reason he was drafted, making plays with his arm and his legs. Caleb can only improve from here on out, he still needs to reign in his accuracy better, a couple of throws were in the dirt and out of reach. He is a rookie and still has a lot of room to improve on, but if Brown and Caleb can continue to work together in stride and eat time off the clock, the Bears are going to be in good shape for the rest of the year.
